Laughing Jesus will be Hanging Around Church

    By Ian Waterhouse

A LEEDS church is to stage an exhibition showing Jesus in an unfamiliar light.
Jesus Laughing, at Chapel Allerton Methodist Church, will feature work by artists from developing countries.

The project was started in 2001 by two Australian businessmen who commissioned pictures of a laughing Jesus to contrast with more traditional images.
Angela Britton from the church said: "We hope the show will interest a huge cross section of people."

    New Venture

SuzanneHere we are. The beginning of a new venture: our first ever  e-zine and frankly, I'm just giddy! We are seeking to be more connective with relevance in our community and help you find ways to live out the Way of Christ in the world.

    So what do we do?

Well, first and foremost, I guess it is important to remember what we are about.

The SEARCH is about...Nurturing community in faith, hope and love and we do that by:
     ▪ Welcoming all God's children to the table of life
     ▪ Taking Jesus' teachings seriously
     ▪ Loving the hard questions of faith
     ▪ Pursuing peace and justice
     ▪ Valuing beauty, art and creativity in our world

Over the next several issues, I'll be taking a look at each of our values, and trying to highlight what it means for us! But now? Well, now, I invite you to experience what it means to be nurtured in faith, hope and love... have you been to The Search Web site lately? (www.seekingthesacred.org)

While there, you can post pictures, poems, prayers...whatever is on your heart in our interactive forum wall. This is a great way to keep people involved in caring for you, but also caring for each other and our worshipping community. We post ideas, announcements, videos....you just never know what you will find on the Web site. It is a great enhancement tool to your Search experience.

I do hope you will find time as school begins winding down to join us for worship each week. We will be finishing up iFaith, looking at Pentecost and then trying to figure out our prayer life in Vertical Habits. I enjoy seeking with you... blessings as together we seek light, love, liberation!

    Music Connections
     Howdy group!

BradEver wonder about the music we have planned for a particular Sunday at The Search?  Check it out here - The Search - Band Access.  We're always updating song ideas, song order and special music on this site.  It's our way of communicating directly with the band throughout the week as we prepare for the upcoming Sunday.  We love to see the great amount of singing and participation from you each and every week.  And we celebrate one of God's great gifts to all of us - the ability and opportunity to sing and worship as a community!

    What's in a Name?

As I thought about what to write for this, our very first of hopefully many e-zines, my mind kept going back to, "Who are we?" and "Why do we call ourselves 'The Search'?"

I think Ryan Hyman gives us a good starting point in his poem on our Web site (www.seekingthesacred.org) when he says, "The Search does not constitute an end, nor is it about beginnings." If you have not had the chance to read the entire poem, I feel it sums us up simply but profoundly.

I consider The Search to be a journey that every one of us is on throughout our entire life. Each of us is at a different stage on this journey, sometimes experiencing struggles and questions that others have already been through, while at other times going through uncharted territory.

This is where The Search worship comes in. It is a place where all of us can come together as a community no matter where we are on our journey individually and support each other with personal answers to struggles and questions. I see The Search as a different step in the journey for all of us, a place where we can keep each other accountable and on track in our journey.

Know that we are all in this together even if we're at different stages in life.  God does not put us on such a tough journey all by ourselves. These are merely ideas that I've been thinking, what about you? What do you consider The Search community and worship service to be in your life and in your journey?
