What We're Listenin' To

My Song List:
-Sinead O'Connor "Theology"
-World Sick "Broken Social Scene"

How do you think theologically? Do you think you think theologically? It's a question we ministerial types try to answer without scaring the pants off of you. What we try to do here at The Search, is to create an environment of thinking Christians, who are passionately devoted to the inner spiritual-heart life as well. When you think theologically you are theologian trying to interpret your own life in the light of biblical and other norms. That's why we take the teachings of Jesus seriously and continue to ask hard questions about our faith.

So what are your hard questions? What faith stops are you on, that you cannot seem to rectify in your own imagination and where is spirituality found these days? I need to know as we emerge into our reimagining what we are doing. You are the lifeblood of The Search at its worship. How are we helping you or not helping you along your spiritual journey? I love feedback and I hope as summer hits the mid point, you will be able to help us discern where we are going.

You know, we are trying for a goal of 200 people worshipping at The Search. What are telling others about our merry little group of crazy worshippers? How can you help us reach out to the larger church and our community? I can't wait to hear more from  your theologically astute minds, my friends.

Peace and Joy I'm sending to you....

Music

Emily Miller

Music, to me, is lifeblood. Seeing that I work at The Search, this is helpful. Whenever anyone asks me "How do you get away from it all?" I tell them that I listen to music; I get lost in it. The tunes don't have to be labeled as Christian music, and honestly, most often, they aren't. Right now you'll find the newest Josh Ritter album blasting from my car stereo. Ok, blasting isn't exactly the right word for Josh. It's mellow, but with purpose. Unless I'm having a moment where I need to rock out to loud pop rock (not often, but sometimes necessary) you'll find me listening to artists that sing about something bigger than themselves. You'll see the reason that I love Josh Ritter in the track titled "Lantern" on his newest album, So Runs the World Away. Everybody needs light for their lantern (theological implications, anyone?), but everyone finds it in different ways. I find light for my lantern in other people, their passion for life, love, the earth, or their pursuits for justice and righteousness. How do you find light for your lantern? Is it in your surroundings? Your partner? Your God? Wherever you find it, claim it; acknowledge that it fills you with something that you may not understand, yet somehow it feeds your soul. Near the end of "Lantern" is my favorite line of the song: "Tell me what's the point of light when you have to strike a match to find?" So find what gives your lantern light, but a tip from Josh: it's not going to be through fire.
