 I love this time of year, when film nominations are coming at us from all directions. When it seems that I don't have enough time to see all the fantastic film offerings (some silly, some life-altering). When it seems like great social commentary is done through the screen. I love December and January for it is my favorite time of the year to see films!
I've had the unique pleasure of seeing BLACK SWAN with Jackie Twedell and it was literally soul-bending. The film reminds me of how much of our stories, our lives, our relationships, our stressors affect all aspects of our journey, especially our faith journey. At The Search, we try to connect our cultural reality with our spiritual searching, and sometimes the greatest theological debates are happening in film.
It is my distinct pleasure to be serving a church community that feels the same way. Not only do we regularly use film clips for worship (see our upcoming series info on TRON: LEGACY), but we also host a film festival each year at the end of January. This year there are films ranging from classics to current, from independent to blockbusters. It is a time when as people of faith, we can access each others stories through the lens of the camera. I hope you will attend this year!
