What does it mean to say, "Worship does God's story?" It is this: Worship proclaims, enacts, and sings God's story. Worship is not a program. Nor is worship about me. Worship is a narrative. God's narrative of the world from its beginning to its end. How will the world know its own story unless we do that story in public worship?

    Sing with joyful abandon...

So lately Ava, my 4 year old, and I have been singing everywhere we go in the car. Sometimes we are singing "I'm a Little Teapot", other times it's "Popular" from WICKED or even "Jessi's Girl" from heartthrob Rick Springfield. But what I love about these moments is the joyful abandon she has to sing at the top of her lungs, batting her eyes, without a care in the world. I wonder if that is how our God views our joyful noise in worship, in the shower, on the way to work/school.

1st Chronicles 16:8 from The Message translation says this: "Thank God! Call out his Name! Tell the whole world who he is and what he's done! Sing to him! Play songs for him! Broadcast all his wonders! Revel in his holy Name, God-seekers, be jubilant!"

When we recorded The Search live a few weeks ago, we were filled with such jubliation and such joyful noise that I am sure that we were much like my Ava in those moments; singing with glorious sounds to a wondrous Creator that craves our sounds, our utterances, our very sighs. Thank you for the gift of noise that you gave and continue to give as we gather for worship each week. And our noise will be recorded and shared through a variety of peoples and places. What a glorious testament to the Sacred we seek!

    God-seekers.... let us be jubilant!

    A Musical Amen...

Can I get an Amen!  Can I get a "dude!"  The February 15th recording of our live worship CD went very well.  Thank you all for attending and making it a wonderful night.  The next step will be putting it in the talented hands of our sound engineer Tobias Harrison and starting the mixing process.  He does incredible work.

God has blessed us in so many ways and we celebrate that in every one of the songs on this disc.  The majority of the songs on this CD were written by me and arranged by The Five Smooth Stones and I am very grateful that this project has come to fruition.  I am also excited about the possibilities that this CD possesses and I stand in wonder as I witness the amazing work God can do with our humble offerings of song.

    Variance in Ministry...

The more I see the church and its members in action, the more I realize the variety of ways ministry can be and is being done. This comes to light in so many ways, both obvious and subtle.

I know you've probably heard too much lately about the CD, but I feel like it is an intriguing type of ministry that we are providing as a community of worship. This CD will provide us with opportunities to share what The Search really is with more people. While it is not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of ministry, it helps me realize that ministry is not limited to one form or fashion.

There are many different opportunities for all kinds of ministry from music to prayer, volunteering time to just listening to those who need conversation. It all boils down to being able to find the type of ministry that fits you best. The opportunity and variety is endless in regards to finding a ministry that suits you, sometimes it's just a matter of trial and error, going through multiple opportunities until finding your niche. You never know, you may be the ignition of a brand new ministry in the life of The Search.
