Re-Imagining
 |
You know there's just something special about shaking things up a bit, don't you think? As we unfold REIMAGINE this year, we are dreaming, visioning and exploring alternatives to our alternative! May begins experiments in the way we worship, the way we commune, the way we celebrate, the way we communicate, the way we fellowship...basically our way in the way of Christ. I hope that as your summer plans unfold you will find a way to The Search to explore all that worship has to offer.
I'm especially excited for Sunday May 30th! We will be worshipping around tables as we eat together, pray together, sing together in a fellowship meal. Be on the lookout for what you can bring on this day as we spend some time together at TABLE, a meaningful symbol of food, kingdom bringing and Jesus sharing. The Search is always on the lookout for ways to engage the Spirit in our every day lives. If you want to help foster community, dream up worship ideas, dress our sacred space or volunteer in mission, I invite you to fill out a SERVE 1 sheet so that we can get you aligned in ministry!
It is a joy to serve alongside you each and every day.

During Presidents Day weekend at the University of California, San Diego, a black member of a white fraternity threw a party in "celebration" of Black History Month. Those who were invited were encouraged to dress ghetto, speak loudly and use a limited vocabulary. Those who came were served fried chicken, watermelon and malt liquor. The incident escalated when the editor of a campus paper went on the campus TV station and referred to people who were rightly annoyed by the party, and the depiction of black culture, as a "bunch of ungrateful" (insert improper "n" word here).
Within a week of the initial outbursts, a sign was hung over the TV station with the words "Compton Lynching," a noose was hung in the central library, and a KKK hood was placed on a prominent statue...
